The Concept

Our Plan for a New Friendship Centre

The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Society has a bold vision: to build a new, iconic Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre in the heart of Halifax.

Our current facility no longer meets the needs of our growing, diverse urban Indigenous community. We need a space where we can expand vital programs, strengthen cultural connections, and create a welcoming home for all Indigenous people in the city.

This new centre will be much more than a building — it will be a vibrant hub for cultural celebration, community gatherings, healing, and learning. It will stand as a symbol of Mi’kmaw strength and resilience and a concrete step forward in the spirit of reconciliation, guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

With strong support from the community and recognition in Halifax’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy, we are making great progress. But we can’t do it alone.

Join us in creating a place where Indigenous voices, traditions, and futures can thrive.
